Windows are not all made the same way. Window replacement are to be used when there’s an existing frame. You can’t install from outside without removing the exterior siding. On this project I removed the existing double hung window and the storm window all from inside the building. I will need ladders for the exterior part of the project ,for sure.
To remove the double hung window I just used a crowbar and a hammer. Used a scrued gun when where the scrues are located . After removing the windows I found out that framing and the sash is still intact and good condition, but it needed paint. So I scraped first the chipped old paint, sanded it and I applied a heavy coat of exterior primer.( Benjamin Moore)
While the paint was drying I moved on to the other window. To prepare it.
After the paint was dry I started installing the window as per manufacturer instructions. Shim it out on both sides make sure it is level.
Install the top extension .(prior to it run a bid of caulk)
After leveling the window on both sides I start attaching with scrues provided by the manufacturer.
I ran a bid of caulk on the bottom of the window and let it go for tonight.
Next time will add aluminum wrap on the outside and caulk. Once I am done with insulation/sheetrock/ready for trim than I will trim this window up.
